On May 6, three members of Team G(race), Carrie Slater, Liz Leahy, and Cynde Sroufe, plus Cynde’s sister, Kristine, headed east to Pittsburgh to run the 4th Annual Pittsburgh Half Marathon. After we got situated at the official race hotel, the Wyndam Grand Pittsburg, we walked to the Expo at the Convention Center. They had a lot of cool vendors. I even scored a free CorePower at their booth because I knew it used to be HoneyMilk. We then headed towards the Incline to have dinner. That evening, we cheered on the Cincinnati Reds at PNC Park, although our efforts were futile. The game ended in a loss for the Reds.
Liz and Kyle met us in our hotel lobby the next morning, and we proceeded right out the doors to the start line. It was very congested with about 20,000 runners total between the full and the half. The weather was decent until about 8:30 am, when it started to get warmer. The race course went over 5 bridges and three rivers during the 13.1 mile course. There were definitely some hilly parts, but we knew to expect that in Pittsburgh. I finished in 1:47:26, about 5 minutes slower than I wanted to run the race in. Liz came in at 1:49:35. Not to be left out of the PR fun that took place in Columbus the previous day, Carrie set a new PR of 2:38:21!
Overall, it was a great trip. There was some trouble at the beginning of the race with not having enough water cups, but besides that, it was an awesome race! It was a different experience this year, having our team split into two groups but it worked out well. Now onto our summer session.
